Bass rods generally have two types of action – ‘tip action’ or ‘through action’. The later is generally a mini version of a standard beachcaster with a soft tip to cast baits and see small bites easier. The ‘through action’ rod is generally stiffer to enable anglers to pull out fish from deep kelp and rock marks and cast large heavy baits like whole mackerel. Bass rods are normally shorter than beachcasters coming in at 11ft to 11.5ft in length.
This makes them more wieldy and maneuverable than your 13ft+ rod. Finally bass rods are much lighter than standard beach casters because most bass fishermen prefer to hold their rod when bass fishing thus this s a reason why manufacturers endeavor to make bass rods as light as possible. Choosing a bass rod is not a simple task as you have to take into account a number of factors one of the most important being the type of ground you will be fishing. If you are fishing mostly clean ground then you could use a standard Diawa, Abu or Shakespeare Bass rod. If you fish heavy rock marks and use big baits then I would suggest something a bit beefier like a Zziplex Powetex Bass rod. |
